When we finally decided on the name, we knew it would be controversial.

We were taking back the word, selfish — a word that often carries a bad rep, and giving it a positive, empowering spin.
More than that, we wanted to expand the idea of what self-care really means. It’s not just about medications or complementary therapies. To us, self-care is anything that brings you joy—whether that’s anime, fashion, spices, or simply taking time for yourself without the guilt trip. We wanted to challenge the notion that self-care is selfish in a bad way and instead show that being “selfish” can be healthy, even needed.
What we didn’t anticipate was just how much support we’d receive.
From the very beginning, so many incredible people and organizations came together to make The Selfish Market 2024 possible:
- The Society Clubhouse – A fantastic, accessible venue that felt welcoming and full of good community vibes the moment you walked through the door.
- Sponsors – Seven amazing sponsors who not only offered financial support but also helped shape the atmosphere with giveaways, swag bags, and a feel-good environment.
- Performers – Two artists who expressed self-care through completely different styles — performances that truly had to be experienced live.
- Vendors – Sixteen local businesses that connected with us on a meaningful level and proudly promoted the #supportlocal movement through their unique offerings.
- Marketing Platforms – Partner organizations that helped us reach communities we wouldn’t have been able to connect with on our own.
- Everyone – Friends, families, volunteers, familiar faces, curious newcomers—you showed up, showed love, and gave us the motivation to keep this going for another year.
Looking back on all the challenges we faced in planning this event, as cliché as it sounds, we truly couldn’t have done it without you. So if we haven’t said it already—thank you. We appreciate the time, energy, and heart you brought to something that means so much to us.
